Jessica Walliser to speak at Goodell Gardens May 15
Organic gardening expert will sign books after lecture

Edinboro, PA – Find out how to partner with beneficial bugs to improve your garden at Goodell Gardens on Sunday, May 15 at 3 pm. Learn how to team up with good bugs when organic gardening expert Jessica Walliser gives her talk “Attracting Beneficial Bugs to your Garden.”

Understanding the cycle of predator and prey is an integral part of growing organically. Using information assembled for her newest book, Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden: A Natural Approach to Pest Control, Walliser will shine some light on the methods needed to attract beneficial insects to the garden – and keep them there. She’ll present ground-breaking university research regarding the intricate connection between plants and insects, and explains the need for maintaining the garden’s natural balance. Walliser will describe over a dozen species of beneficial insects found across North America and accompanies the lecture with beautiful images of the predators themselves and their favorite host plants. You’ll never look at bugs the same way again!

Walliser co-hosts “The Organic Gardeners” on KDKA-Radio in Pittsburgh. She’s a former contributing editor for Organic Gardening Magazine and a regular contributor to Fine Gardening, Urban Farm and Hobby Farm magazines. She serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Horticultural Society. Her two weekly gardening columns for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review have been enjoyed by readers for over eight years. Her fourth book, Attracting Beneficial Bugs to the Garden: A Natural Approach to Pest Control, was released by Timber Press in January of 2014 and was named one of the Top 12 Gardening Books by Martha Stewart Living magazine in March of 2015.

The former owner of a 25-acre organic market farm, Walliser received her degree in ornamental horticulture from The Pennsylvania State University. She’s taught a diverse array of gardening topics for over 20 years and is a former faculty member of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. She is author of the Amazon best-seller Good Bug, Bad Bug: Who’s Who, What They Do, and How to Manage Them Organically and blogs weekly for both SavvyGardening.com and HobbyFarms.com. Walliser lives and gardens northwest of Pittsburgh with her husband and son, seven chickens, two hermit crabs, and billions and billions of very good bugs.
