Sunday, May 15, 3 pm — Beneficial Bugs, a garden lecture with Jessica Walliser
Understanding the cycle of predator and prey is an integral part of growing organically. Using information assembled for her newest book, Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden: A Natural Approach to Pest Control, Jessica shines some light on the methods needed to attract beneficial insects to the garden – and keep them there. She presents ground-breaking university research regarding the intricate connection between plants and insects, and explains the need for maintaining the garden’s natural balance. Jessica describes over a dozen species of beneficial insects found across North America and accompanies the lecture with beautiful images of the predators themselves and their favorite host plants. You’ll never look at bugs the same way again!
Jessica Walliser co-hosts “The Organic Gardeners” on KDKA-Radio in Pittsburgh, PA. She is a former contributing editor for Organic Gardening magazine and a regular contributor to Fine Gardening, Urban Farm, and Hobby Farms magazines. Jessica also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of The American Horticultural Society.

Thursday, June 23, 6 – 7:30 pm — Evergreens in the Garden with Goodell Gardens Executive Director Dana Atwood
Dana will give you the rundown on “Evergreens in the Garden.” The Goodell sisters were very fond of evergreens, and Dana will explore the many reasons why evergreens have such a prominent role in NWPA gardens. He will also discuss the many historic evergreens Goodell Gardens inherited as well as talk about the role of evergreens in the newly planted areas of the Gardens.

Thursday, July 14, 6 – 7 pm — Planting your Fall Harvest with Kerstin Martin, Allegheny College Garden Manager and Director of the Meadville Community Wellness Initiative
Kerstin will give you the direction you need to plan your fall harvest! Kerstin will go over what types of vegetable varieties can be planted, when they can be planted and when you can plan to harvest them. She will also offer season extension tips so you can harvest from your garden even more!

Thursday, Aug. 25, 6 – 7:30 pm — 5 Plant Allies for Herbal First Aid with Leah Wolfe, community herbalist & health educator
Join Leah as she talks about “5 Plant Allies for Herbal First Aid.” Leah will teach you how to make and use herbal remedies for basic first aid and take a few home to start your own herbal first aid kit!
