In a response to the unprecedented need across the globe following the COVID-19 outbreak, the folks at GivingTuesday are hosting a special day of giving on May 5, 2020 called GivingTuesdayNow.
While we are keenly aware that not everyone is in position to give right now, here at Goodell Gardens, we do have a need for support. Our budget is balanced each year by income from events – both public events and private rentals. With social distancing required to keep everyone safe, many of those events are being cancelled.
So far, we have cancelled all of our events scheduled during the month of May, resulting in a loss of approximately $8,000 in revenue. That’s just one month of cancelled events. As social distancing continues and we are not able to gather, we’re seeing that lost income dig a bigger and bigger hole.
We’ve tightened our belts, cutting out any unnecessary expenses and implementing a hiring freeze. We’re also seeking funding from several sources, including stimulus programs and grants.
All the while, the plants still need cared for, and we’ve been working to adapt our programming to reach you at home. We’re developing some classes, webinars, and concerts live-streamed to our Facebook page, with videos added to www.goodellgardens.org afterward. But this work cannot be done for free.
That’s why we’re asking for your support.
If you’re not able to give, we completely understand. Please take care of your family and put your most immediate needs first.
However, if you’re able to give, please consider making a donation to Goodell Gardens at this time. Your support has helped us take overgrown gardens and a farm filled with ramshackle buildings and turn it into the gorgeous Gardens and community gathering space you’ve come to love. Together we’ll emerge on the other side of this pandemic stronger than ever, but in the meantime, we need you.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation today.
The Gardens at Goodell grow because of YOU.
Thank you so much.
There are a few ways you can give:
1. Help your contribution make an even bigger impact by donating through our page on the Nonprofit Hub, Do More Good & Firespring’s giving portal:
https://now.firespring.com/nonprofits/goodellgardens
Much like Erie Gives Day, donations made through this special online portal will be matched, in part, based on the total number of donations and the total matching funds available. To qualify for the matching fund pool, your donation must be made using the link above between April 24 and May 26, 2020.
2. Make a donation through Paypal Giving Fund. This link will take you to our charity page (The Goodell Project) for the Paypal Giving Fund:
paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/112657
Paypal does not charge any processing fees for donations made through this link.
3. Donate directly to Goodell Gardens right here online:
Don’t worry, we won’t share your information with anyone.
If you’re able to give, no matter how, know that we’re incredibly grateful for your support. There are so many worthy causes out there, and it’s an honor to earn your support.
And again, if you’re not able to help right now, we completely understand. We want you to put the needs of your family first. Your Gardens will still be here for you once we’re able to open our gates.
Thank you so much. Please stay safe out there.
