Erie Gives is a wonderful time in northwestern Pennsylvania – when anyone with a spare $25 can be a philanthropist! We ask that you consider making a contribution to help create beautiful gardens and natural spaces where people can visit to enjoy, gather, learn, and refresh during Erie Gives on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
In the last 12 months your generosity has helped finish re-siding the 1885 Goodell Bank Barn, create beautiful Gardens surrounding our events complex and begin planting a new space honoring Indigenous knowledge of plants, begin re-cultivating 36 acres of former farmland into native grasses and wildflowers, build and refine trails, begin building an observation deck overlooking Edinboro Lake Cove, create a database of our herbaceous plants, document countless new entries in our historic archives, add several new species and cultivars to our arboriculture and horticulture collections, and earn Level II Arboretum Accreditation through ArbNet.
What’s more, together we’ve helped hundreds of children connect with nature and the world of plants, hosted concerts, classes, live theatre, and festivals, and continued to care for the beautiful plant collections, historic buildings, and artifacts left by the Goodell Sisters Carrie & Margaret.
Over the next calendar year, your continued support will allow us to complete building the observation deck and wildflower plantings, and expand the trails system – including adding a meditative labyrinth. Your support will allow us to add interpretive signage to help visitors better understand the heritage of the Goodell Family, connect with the stories about the homestead, and learn about plants and nature.
The next year will also see more visitors to the Gardens, as we host students from each elementary school in Erie City’s Public Schools and General McLane School District for field trips, build an outdoor classroom specifically for education, and continue to grow our community partnerships to offer educational, cultural, and wellness programs at your Gardens.
With your continued support, these wonderful projects and programs can continue. Your support on Erie Gives Day (Tuesday, August 8) will help fund continued growth at your Gardens.
There are several ways you can give on Erie Gives Day, as listed below. I’d be honored if you’d join me by including Goodell Gardens & Homestead on your Erie Gives donation list.
With gratitude,
