Goodell Gardens to reopen with limited hours
Dear friends of Goodell Gardens,
A month ago I wrote you with the sad news that we were delaying opening day due to the pandemic.
This past month has been very lonely. Our Gardens & Grounds staff has worked hard as your Gardens woke up from the winter months. Our Administrative and Visitor Services staff, committees, and Board of Directors worked hard to figure out how to make it possible to invite you back into your Gardens. And we’ve missed all of you.
We’ve been following CDC and PA Department of Health guidelines as they’ve been released, and we’ve been in contact with the Erie County Department of Health. With all this advice in mind, we’re excited to announce that we’re ready to invite you to visit for socially-distant viewing of YOUR Gardens.
In order to keep everyone safe, and to follow the guidelines set forth by the governing agencies listed above, we must insist that visitors follow these guildelines:
- If you are not feeling well, or have been around someone who is ill, please stay home and visit at another time.
- Mask up! Please bee prepared to cover your face with a mask or other CDC approved face covering.
- Only 25 people may be on site at a time. If you arrive and see a full parking lot, please come back to visit at another time.
- Practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from anyone who is not part of your household.
- Please note that all of our buildings – including our restrooms – will be closed to the public.
- Follow all signs and postings regarding social distancing / masking / precautions, which may change frequently to adhere to guidance from the CDC and state and county Departments of Health.
With all of that in mind, Goodell Gardens & Homestead will be open with admission on a donation basis (give what you can, if you can) beginning Friday, June 5, 2020:
Friday 2-6 pm
Saturday & Sunday, 12 – 5 pm.
We will adjust hours as needed until we’re able to be fully operational again. Thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time.
We’re so excited to invite you back to YOUR Gardens!More information will be shared as it becomes available on our website, www.goodellgardens.org and on our Facebook page.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support during this unprecedented time.
Sincerely,
Amber Wellington

Opening Day Delayed to June
In an effort to comply with all social distancing requirements in orders from the State and County, Goodell Gardens is postponing our opening day for the 2020 season.
For the first time since we first opened our gates in 2004, May 1 will not be our opening date. This was a tough decision, one we struggled with because we miss all of you and have worked hard to prepare your Gardens and program of events for the 2020 season.
We wish we knew when it will be safe to gather at Goodell Gardens again. Unfortunately, we do not. It is our responsibility to keep our members, visitors, volunteers, staff, and community as safe as possible, and we believe postponing opening day is one way to do that.
Barring any further orders from the Federal, State, County or Local Government, Goodell Gardens will open for the 2020 season June 1, 2020. At that time, strict social distancing will be in place. We’ll announce those requirements at a later date.
We have worked with our rental clients, performers, teachers, and committees to make the decision to cancel all events – public and private – scheduled to take place during the month of May. We are actively working with our teachers, performers, and rental clients to formulate a plan for the month of June.
More information will be shared as it becomes available on our website, www.goodellgardens.org and on our Facebook page Goodell Gardens and Homestead.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support during this unprecedented time.

Dear Supporters of Goodell Gardens & Homestead,
As you are probably aware, in response to COVID-19 the CDC has advised the cancellation or postponement of all gatherings of 50 or more people scheduled over the next eight weeks.
To follow these guidelines and in an effort to keep our staff, members, and supporters safe, Goodell Gardens & Homestead has canceled Mother’s Day Brunch, originally scheduled for May 9 & 10, 2020. This was not an easy decision, but we feel it is our duty to take every precaution possible to keep our community safe.
If you have already purchased tickets to Mother’s Day, please check your voicemail or email for communication from us regarding refunding your tickets.
We are currently planning to find a way to celebrate together once it’s safe to gather again. Please watch our social media channels, our website, and your email for updates about future plans.
Because the Gardens do not open to the public until May 1, we are waiting for further guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and Erie County Department of Health before we make any decisions regarding daily visitation. Please remember that our site is closed to any visitors at this time.
As of right now, all rentals on our books take place after the eight week gathering period, so barring any other edicts from the federal, state, county, or local government, all private rentals will be left to the discretion of our individual clients. We’ll be in contact regularly with updates from what these agencies are requiring from us. In the meantime, trust that we will do everything we are able to honor our private rental contracts.
As for other events, please know that we are paying close attention to the ever-changing recommendations and guidance and will be reacting as we are able. We’ll do our best to keep our website and social media channels up-to-date.
Should you need to reach us, please call us (814) 734-6699 or email us. We’ll get back to you as soon as we are able. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this strange new world together.
During times like these, we urge you to follow the recommendations from the government agencies, stay safe, and wash your hands.
We look forward to celebrating with all of you once we’re able to gather again.
Thank you for your continued support of Goodell Gardens & Homestead.
Ever grateful,
Amber Wellington
